Write a ten-page double spaced paper based on clinical/professional topics in the
fields of speech-language pathology or audiology. Each student will be required to
1. Identify one clinical topic relevant to speech-language pathologists or one professional topic
relevant to audiologists.
2. Write a 10+-page discussion of the topic you chose by defining and describing the topic. A
minimum of six scholarly references (peer-reviewed journal articles) is required plus one “nonscholarly”
source just as a magazine article, blog post, or article in the ASHA Leader. Policy
statements from ASHA may be used to supplement your paper but these do NOT count
toward your minimum number of references. Articles must be published from 2011 to the
present. A reference section in APA format must be attached. In text citations are required.
This will include a 1-page introduction and a 1-page summary. The minimum total number of
pages required for this paper is ten (10). (The reference section does not count toward the 10-
page requirement, nor does the title page.) Final papers not meeting the 10-page
requirement will count as failures.
3. Remember, the focus is on Evidence-Based practice AND information literacy. You will be
required to evaluate the information that you have reviewed and offer your appraisal of the
situation, BASED ON THE EVIDENCE THAT YOU PRESENTED IN YOUR PAPER. I do not want
your personal opinion based on your values/experiences/beliefs. I want you to think critically
(thinking critically does NOT mean criticize) about the situation and the available evidence
regarding pros and cons, challenges, etc. It would be appropriate to discuss what evidence is
missing that you think would provide some helpful guidance for the situations you have
chosen.
4. This is academic writing, so the tone of your writing needs to reflect that. No first person
comments. You will not include the title of any article in the text of your paper. The only place
that titles should appear is in the Reference section.
5. What this paper is not: a series of journal article reviews. You should not include specific
details about the methods, participants, measures used, etc. You will not include details
about where the studies were completed, unless you are comparing practice in two different
countries.
