1. My son is living with me.
2. I’m currently not working now/in school.
3. Father doesn’t live with us but he pays child support and works.
4. Father usually gets a 1000 for him as he’s his dependent in tax season.
I need to know, because I want to ask his dad for half of the thousand dollars towards my 15 year old to obtain a used car in the summer of 2016.
Is it true that if my son files taxes for him self, dad can’t add him as a dependent and my son can get his own taxes next tax season.
I rather my son get 500 from dads taxes and not 300 from my sons taxes.
I hope I made myself clear.
Not true – your son is still a dependent and can be claimed even though he files his own return. If your son has a…
efund coming though he can get it. He can’t claim himself on his return.
